Daniel Gruener is one of the participants in the revival and renovation of Mexican films. His feature films “Sobrenatural” (All of them witches) and “Morirse en Domingo” (Never on a Sunday), a decade apart, is an example of the time he takes to choose and erect each project. His opera prima “Sobrenatural” is considered the fifth Mexican film with more weeks in Mexico’s box office, which in itself speaks of the favorable response to his work not only by specialized critics but of public in general.
His films have been recognized in the main Festivals of the World. These are some of the awards received:
The special Award at the 34th Milano International Ficts Fest for “ShortPlays”.
Best International film in Calgary’s International Film Festival for “Morirse en Domingo”.
The award Cineactive Reino de Navarra for the best film in the International Film Festival of Pamplona for “Morirse en Domingo”.
Best Film and Best Director in the International Film Festival of Cartagena de Indias for “Sobrenatural”.
Best Production in the International Film Festival of Puerto Rico for “Sobrenatural”.
Best Short in Montreal Festival des Films du Monde for “De Jazmín en Flor”.

His work has taken him beyond his Country and has not only limited itself to films. Daniel Gruener has worked in the Theater and Opera, which speaks of his formation. As an example, his mise-en-scène of “The Telephone” by Menotti with the Chamber Orchestra of Bellas Artes. As director, he has shown great versatility in working in different genres and formats; as well as his ample capacity to coordinate large groups while making the most of their personal talents. This quality has surfaced in the personal success of each of his team members, with whom he has reached important achievements such as, heading the megaproject “A Window into our History”, the main show in Mexico’s Bicentennial celebrations. This multimedia show toured the whole country during seven months in 2010 and captured an audience of four million spectators. Another example of his talent when he integrates to new formats is the reality show “Top Chef México” considered the most ambitious non fiction production for TV in Mexico to our time. This show was nominated in 2018 to an iemmy for best non scripted show of the year.
Daniel Gruener has made a brilliant career in advertisement working with important firms such as Coca Cola, Budweiser, General Motors, RadioShack, Bacardi, MasterCard, Danone, Johnny Walker. Due to the excellent production quality in 2015, his production company received the Century International Quality ERA award.
Recently he produced and directed the reality show Top Chef México for NBC Universe and Sony Entertainment Television, considered the most important Mexican TV production nowadays.
He has also made several music videos for well known artists such as: Ricky Martin, Thalia, Aleks Syntek and Susana Zabaleta to complete a labor that makes Daniel Gruener one of the most influential Mexican directors now a day’s.
